Stream Deck

The newest addition is Elgoto's Stream Deck run by Bitfocus Companion. At my desk and

at each of the night stands will be a unit that will allow fast button control of various devices. It will also allow us to quickly bring cameras up on our TVs or change the settings of our Heating/AC.

The units will connect via Elgoto's Network Dock to Bitfocus Companions running in a VLX in Proxmox. That will then talk with Home Assistant to complete the requested actions or create the feedback to the deck. Each Network Dock is POE+ powered from the Ubiquiti network switch in the basement.

Although I could set it up with a dozen different screens I decided to stick to four screens that are repeated with slight changes at each station.

The home screen will show the time, date and current temp outside. And in the case of my office it shows the status of the washer and dryer as well as the lights around me.

Next up we have the Media page that on my office and bedroom will have buttons to start our playlists through out the house. This will also eventualy have a button to turn on the TV and show all of the exterior cameras.

The climate page need a little work but in the case of the office it is setup to control the main thermostat. In the case of the upstairs bedrooms it will control the radiators and window A/C unit. In some of the rooms it will control the celling fans. It currently is a bit clunky and just runs a script for each button. In the future I will make it a little more interactive.

And finally we have what I refer to as the lights page. This page has buttons for pages beyond the immediate bedroom and any shades that are in the bedroom.

The deck brightness on each screen is so that it can be dimmed to a low level becouse otherwise it lights up the entire room. I have even created a scene called homecoming that turns on the porch light and a few other lights so we can enter the house without hitting light switches. I particularly have it at my desk becouse it will get dark and I will not even relize it. So it is there so I can light the house for other people coming home.
